YOUTH ESSAY CONTEST HONORS FREEDOM’S HEROES

Millington, TN Students learn "The True Meaning of Memorial Day"

Millington, TN – April 24, 2017

During the month of April, Northridge Woodhaven Community Outreach, a program of Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home and Cemetery will host their annual youth essay contest titled,  "The True Meaning of Memorial Day."

The contest, open to all Millington, TN middle and high school students, was established to create educational awareness for the Millington community. Located near Naval Support Activity Mid-South, students are encouraged to interact with local veterans, educators, and community members to learn the meaning behind Memorial Day.

Essay submissions will be received April 1 through April 30, 2017 from students enrolled in Millington, TN area middle and high schools. Essay submissions from private, charter, and home schools will also be accepted.

Winning essays will be announced Monday, May 29 at the Memorial Day Youth Essay Contest Awards Ceremony, a part of the annual Memorial Day Patriotic Remembrance held at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home and Cemetery, 6755 Highway 51 North, Millington, TN 38053. A total of 6 prizes will be awarded; $500 will be awarded to one each middle and high school first place winner; $200 will be awarded to one each first place runner-up at both middle and high school levels and $100 will be awarded to one each second place runner-up in both middle and high school levels. Winning essays will be featured on the Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home and Cemetery website, social media page, and other related print and electronic media.

Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home Manager, Rhonda Harris stated, "We are pleased to continue our annual traditions, especially those that involve our local youth and military. This patriotic writing competition provides an opportunity for youth to learn about the importance of Memorial Day and the service and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes. Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home and Cemetery is committed to showing dedication and appreciation to our local veterans and members of the military."
